Our Green Page

We are conscious of the current and future environmental issues that are likely to affect us all, so during our refurbishment, we have attempted to reduce our carbon emissions (to do our bit!).

Green Arches benefits from 40 solar evacuated tubes (20 tubes south facing and 20 tubes west facing), which is estimated to provide all our and our guests’ hot water needs for 6 months of the year and up to 30% of our hot water during the winter. We also have solar tiles installed (south facing), which generate up to 1.5Kw of electricity. In practice this has equated to over 1100 Kwh (units on the meter) in the past 12 months. The surplus of our usage has been fed directly back to the national grid. yes, our meter actually goes backwards, especially in the summer!)

We use a 6000 litre water storage tank (installed underneath our garage) in which we collect rainwater from our roof (over 100m2 coverage), which is then recycled and used for our washing machine and to flush all of the toilets!

We make full use of the local recycling services and facilities.

We have calculated that we produce approximately 3 to 4 tonnes of co2 per year (based on full guest occupancy of Green Arches), compared to the average of 10 tonnes per year for 2 people in the UK.

All in all, we believe we are environmentally-friendly
